经过积极探索和持续建设，在第二个全国生态日到来之际，大庆油田于8月15日取得天津排放权交易所《碳中和证书》，标志着中国石油首个万亩零碳生态园区——大庆油田马鞍山碳中和生态园区正式建成。
零碳，不是完全不排放二氧化碳，而是通过计算温室气体排放，以植树造林、节能减排等形式，抵减碳足迹、减少碳排放，直至达到碳的相对零排放。
大庆油田马鞍山碳中和生态园区总面积13500亩，土壤条件适宜植树造林、地表绿化，加之多年来油田建设的防护林和苗木基地渐成规模，具备较好基础。区域周边以化工、电力企业为主，环境治理和生态改善需求较为迫切。这一区域的环境整治和提升工作于2015年7月份启动筹划实施，并由最初的区域地表环境治理、植被恢复，逐步清晰思路、完善规划，陆续赋予其降碳减排、生态观光、清洁替代等使命任务，最终确定了“十四五”期间在万亩园区内部实现碳中和的根本目标。目前，园区建设已全面完成。
经天津排放权交易所进行碳测算，大庆油田马鞍山碳中和生态园区自身实现碳中和，是名副其实的“零碳”园区。
